Originally, from the Pasadena area, Dr McCoppin graduated the University of Notre Dame. Subsequently, he taught history at the high school level where he also coached baseball, soccer, and cross country. After a few years, he decided to change careers and attended medical school at the University of California, San Diego. He completed his training as an anesthesia resident at the University of Arizona. He is currently a practicing anesthesiologist with Old Pueblo Anesthesia.
